Swamp Cabbage’s debut Honk hits the scene with a big bang. I picked up this CD not knowing exactly what to expect and walked away pleasantly surprised. I absolutely loved, loved, LOVED this album. It’s a kicky mixture of blues, rock, bluegrass and country to suit just about any music lover. It’s all around fun, naughty and just charming enough to make up for its rawness. Walter Parks leads the group with his slammin’ guitar (probably honed from his years of playing with Richie Havens—the man who opened Woodstock in 1969) and a voice that is best described as “water tumbling over stones”, AKA “that blues voice.” And when he belts out lyrics like “Get more booty with Buddha around,” you just can’t help but bob your head and dance in your seat. The music is catchy and niftily executed. I can’t wait to hear more. GG Swamp Cabbage! Liegh Hegedus
